Current State
ShimmeryMemory.com already has the foundation of a semantic archive:
- Astro publishing substrate
- Markdown content collection
- essay index
- essay detail route
- glyph-aware content conventions
- canonical frontmatter fields
- attribution conventions
- project/glyph/tag metadata
- black/shimmer visual direction
- a seed of a glyph interface
The site is no longer merely a blog. It is already a meaning archive.
The roadmap is to turn that archive into a field, then into a lab, then into an interface.
The Build Sequence
1. Preserve canonical artifacts.
2. Make the archive navigable.
3. Install Shimmer Lab.
4. Generalize variables into anchors.
5. Make ShimmeryMemory itself shimmer-enabled.
6. Add article-side shimmer profiles.
7. Build document anchors.
8. Precompute shimmer variants.
9. Let seeds travel across projections.
10. Consider live AI-assisted shimmer.
Phase 0 - Preserve the Canonical Docs
Publish the current origin documents as artifacts:
- Shimmer Interface Manifesto
- Shimmer Lab Concept and Code Summary
- Shimmer v0.4 Prototype: Host Lab + Bridge
- Stable Artifacts, Tunable Projections
- From Archive to Interface
- Shimmer Vocabulary
Purpose:
The site should contain its own origin record.
The conceptual lineage should be public and legible.
Phase 1 - Make the Archive Navigable
Goal: upgrade from essay list to semantic archive.
Deliverables:
- artifact type metadata
- project/domain filters
- tag index
- glyph index
- attribution/project index
- essay cards with artifact type and glyphs
- Start Here paths
Suggested paths:
- Consentful Cybernetics path
- ULiUA path
- MobiusSelf path
- Continuity Office path
- Rewild Yourself path
- Artifact vs Attractor path
- Glyphs and Meaning path
- Protocols path
Outcome:
Readers can enter by project, theme, glyph, or conceptual need.
Phase 2 - Install the Lab as a Working Page
Goal: bring the v0.4 prototype onto ShimmeryMemory.
Suggested routes:
/lab
/lab/demo
/shimmer-bridge.js
Minimum install:
public/shimmer-bridge.js
src/pages/lab.astro
src/pages/lab/demo.astro
The existing shimmer-host-lab.html can be converted into an Astro page later. At first, it can live as a static HTML file if speed matters.
Outcome:
ShimmeryMemory hosts a working demonstration of portable field state.
Phase 3 - Extract the Protocol Modules
Right now, the prototype keeps several concerns close together. Split them into modules:
/lib/shimmer-codec.js
/lib/shimmer-hash.js
/lib/shimmer-manifest.js
/lib/shimmer-controls.js
/lib/shimmer-bridge.js
/lib/shimmer-projections.js
The first important extractions are:
shimmer-codec.js
shimmer-hash.js
shimmer-manifest.js
Because these stabilize the protocol.
Phase 4 - Generalize Variables into Anchors
The current prototype uses CSS variables. The next conceptual upgrade is to call them anchors.
variables implies CSS.
anchors implies generality.
A visual anchor may point to a CSS variable. A semantic anchor may point to a document mode. A glyph anchor may point to symbol density. A protocol anchor may point to echo depth.
Outcome:
Shimmer becomes an anchor substrate, not merely a color lab.
Phase 5 - Make ShimmeryMemory Itself Shimmer-Enabled
The site should eat its own fruit.
Start with visual anchors:
--bg
--ink
--shimmer-accent
--card-opacity
--glow-strength
--grain-opacity
--glyph-scale
Then allow Shimmer Lab to tune ShimmeryMemory itself.
Outcome:
ShimmeryMemory is not just hosting Shimmer.
ShimmeryMemory is a projection surface for Shimmer.
Phase 6 - Add Article-Side Shimmer Profiles
Each artifact gets metadata like:
shimmer_profile:
formality: 3
complexity: 4
metaphor: 4
abstraction: 4
temporal_span: 3
emotional_tone: 3
narrative_flow: 2
symbol_density: 2
reader_assumptions: 3
loop_awareness: 5
This does not need live rewriting yet.
At first, these values can drive:
- glyph bar
- related echoes
- recommended reader paths
- article atmosphere
- mode badges
- filtering/discovery
Phase 7 - Build Document Anchors
The Shimmer Interface Manifesto names ten scalars:
- formality
- complexity
- metaphor use
- abstraction
- temporal span
- emotional tone
- narrative flow
- symbol density
- reader assumptions
- loop awareness
Those become semantic anchors.
At first, they should control deterministic interface layers:
- show/hide annotations
- show/hide glyphs
- compress/expand sections
- sort echo stack
- change related artifact emphasis
- switch among prewritten variants
Only later should they trigger AI-assisted rewriting.
Phase 8 - Precompute Shimmer Variants for Flagship Artifacts
Choose a small set:
- Shimmer Interface Manifesto
- Consent Is the Gradient Mask on Optimization
- BIFLI Check
- Artifacts, Attractors, and the Relativity of Appearance
- The Mobius Flip
- Good Faith Is Not a Defense Mechanism
- Field Events / Anchor Singularities
Generate variants:
canonical
plainspoken
poetic
technical
compressed
loop-aware
glyph-rich
Then the reader can tune without destabilizing the canonical artifact.
Phase 9 - Let Seeds Travel Across Projections
Long range, a seed generated in one projection may be interpreted by another.
Examples:
A visual color field seed
→ becomes a glyph poster
A document reading posture
→ becomes a semantic map
A glyph constellation
→ becomes a site theme
A consent protocol graph
→ becomes a teaching card
A ULiUA field
→ becomes merch art
Outcome:
Shimmer manipulates the seed.
Projections interpret it.
Sites embody it.
Phase 10 - Consider AI-Assisted Live Shimmer
Only after static and precomputed versions work.
Deliverables:
- server/API route or external worker
- transformation prompts
- consent/safety constraints
- citation/provenance display
- clear notice that canonical source remains unchanged
- optional user-controlled ephemeral rendering
- no silent overwriting of canonical artifacts
Principle:
AI shimmer must never replace the artifact.
It may only refract it.
Near-Term Execution Checklist
For the next concrete ShimmeryMemory site pass:
1. Add /lab with the v0.4 host prototype.
2. Add /lab/demo with the demo shimmer-enabled surface.
3. Place shimmer-bridge.js in public/.
4. Add a short Lab explainer panel:
"This is not a color picker. It is a portable field-state demo."
5. Rename conceptual language from variables to anchors in visible copy.
6. Keep CSS-variable implementation underneath for now.
7. Add field seed / shimmerprint explanation.
8. Add links from homepage:
- Library
- Glyph Field
- Shimmer Lab
- Vision
9. Publish Shimmer Interface Manifesto.
10. Publish Shimmer Lab Concept.
Product Constraint
Do not let Shimmer become just theme customization.
The color picker is simply the first friendly manifestation.
The point is:
portable state
projection surfaces
field seeds
public traces
site manifests
bridgeable tuning
Roadmap Compression
Read the artifact.
Enter the field.
Tune the shimmer.
Carry the seed.
Leave a trace.
